As a child, I was diagnosed with a slight case of polio. The doctor told my mum that a working vaccine was available, but it had not been thoroughly tested, and it seemed like a cure. My mother insisted on giving it to me, and it worked.
The 80s were particularly scary when we all realised that the HIV virus was not confined to the homosexual community, but that it knew no boundaries, affecting both heterosexual and homosexuals alike. It claimed the lives of too many, and we all breathed a sigh of relief when medication was developed to slow down this potentially deadly virus. This is why I’m a huge believer in vaccines and medications that save lives across the world for a multitude of viruses. (ca.1984)
